Softball Drops Series Finale at TAMIU

LAREDO, Texas – The Newman softball team fell behind early and lost, 12-4, at Texas A&M International on Saturday (Feb. 28) in the final game of a weekend three-game series at Dustdevil Field. The Dustdevils swept the three-game set.

TAMIU hit a two-run homer in the first to gain an early 2-0 advantage. In the second inning, the Dustdevils plated six runs. With the bases loaded, two errors allowed three runs to score. A double to left field scored two more runs, and another double down the line brought in one more run for an 8-0 Dustdevil lead after two innings.

Breanna Pingry went long in the third inning, hitting a three-run home run to left field in the third inning. With the three runs, the Jets trailed 8-3.

The Dustdevils added two more runs in the third and fourth innings. The two runs in the third scored on a single to left field for a 10-3 score. A double to left field and a single to center field in the fourth plated two more runs for the 12-3 TAMIU advantage.

The Jets added one run in the fifth inning for a 12-8 score; however, NU needed one more run to keep the game going so the game ended after five innings due to run rule.

NU totaled eight hits. Courtney Sartin went 2-for-3 with one run scored. Pingry was 1-for-3 with three RBI.

Kelsey Jones started in the circle, going 2 innings and allowing eight runs, but only two earned runs. She gave up four hits. Katie Ingles pitched 2 innings. Only four of the 12 Dustdevil runs were earned.

TAMIU's Brenda Parnin went 2-for-2 with four RBI and two runs scored. She walked once.

The Jets play at Cameron on Tuesday (Feb. 3) in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. in Lawton, Texas.
