ResultsWICHITA – The Newman women's tennis team rolled to an 8-1 victory over Tabor College on Saturday (Feb. 7) at Riverside Park. The Jets moved to 1-0 on the spring season.
NU started by taking all three doubles courts. At No. 1 doubles,
Lisa Pleskan and
Tamar Tskhakaia got a close 8-6 win over Tabor's Jessica Emoto and Becky Faber. In the No. 2 doubles match,
Kate Bugayenko and
Ariana Raga teamed up to get a 8-2 victory.
Hillary Hicks and
Courtney Dold pulled out to a 8-1 win at No. 3 singles.
In the singles competition, NU won five of the six matches. The lone loss was at No. 1 singles. Pleskan lost a tight 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 match to Emoto. Tskhakaia got a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles. In the No. 3 singles match, Bugayenko cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win. Hicks was just as dominant in the No. 4 singles match, pulling to a 6-0, 6-1 victory. The straight set wins kept coming as Dold got a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles. In the No. 6 singles match, Raga rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 decision.
The Jets are back in action tomorrow (Feb. 8) against Cowley College. The match starts at 1 p.m. at Riverside.
