ResultsMIDLAND, Texas – The Newman women's tennis team continued its winning ways with a dominating 9-0 win at Texas-Permian Basin on Sunday (March 15). The Jets moved to 13-0 and 2-0 in the Heartland Conference. NU is one win off matching its best start in school history of 14-0, which was set last season.
The Jets went 3-0 in doubles competition.
Lisa Pleskan and Carissa Villalfor cruised to an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles.
Kate Bugayenko and
Hillary Hicks pulled out a close 9-7 victory at No. 2 doubles. In the No. 3 doubles match,
Ariana Raga and
Tamar Tskhakaia teamed up to get a 8-3 victory.
In the singles competition, NU won all six courts, including the top three in straight sets. Bugayenko got a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles. In the No. 2 singles match, Pleskan picked up a 6-2, 7-5 win. Tskhakaia got a dominating 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles. At the No. 4 singles match, Hicks pulled out a tight three set win. In the third set tiebreaker, Hicks won by an 11-9 score. She also won the first set, 6-0. Raga also got a very close three set win. She dropped a tight first set and then won 6-2. In the third set tiebreaker, Raga was victorious, 10-3. At No. 6 singles, Villaflor won by a 6-2, 6-4 score.
NU looks to match its best start in school history against Bethel College on March 19 at Riverside. It starts a five-match homestand for the Jets.
