WICHITA – With a doubleheader sweep of Texas-Permian Basin, the Newman softball team ran its winning streak to three-straight games with 5-4 and 7-1 victories on Friday (March 27) at the Newman Softball Field. The Jets moved to 9-24 on the season and 4-10 in the Heartland Conference.
Newman 5, UTPB 4

Kelsey Jones singled through the infield to score

After falling behind 1-0, in the fourth, NU responded with four runs, all from home runs. In the fourth
Katie Ingles homered down the right field line for a two-run shot for a 2-1 NU lead. Still in the fourth inning, Jones went deep with a solo homer for a 3-1 score.
Jensen Cromer got in on the action, hitting a solo shot to left field in the fifth to make it 4-1.
The Falcons plated one run in the sixth as a runner at third scored after the Jets got a Falcon runner in a rundown between first and second base. In the seventh, UTPB tied the score at 4-4 with two runs. The first round scored on a solo homer and then an error by the Jets allowed the Falcons to knot the score at 4-4.
Cromer started in the circle, going all 7 innings and moving to 5-9. She allowed two earned runs on 11 hits.
Sartin went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Jones was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Newman 7, UTPB 1
In the nightcap, NU used a strong second inning to pull away for a 7-1 win.
After one run on a homer from UTPB in the second, the Jets poured on five runs in their half of the inning for a 5-1 edge. An error by the Falcons allowed the Jets to tie the score at 1-1.
Taylor Mannis singled up the middle to plate two runs.
Kassidy Furr and Jones scored on the single for the 3-1 lead.
Mikayla Medbery hit an infield single to score Cromer for a 4-1 score. Mannis came home for the 5-1 lead after the Falcons tried to catch Medbery at second on a steal.
Madison Bish brought a run home with a single to center field to bring in
Kaitlyn Buck. The final NU run scored in the fourth on a single by Buck to bring in Medbery for the 7-1 final score.
Sartin was once again 3-for-4 from the plate. Medbery went 2-for-3, and Mannis was 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored.
Ingles started in the second game and went the complete 7 innings. She pitched a four-hitter and allowed only one run. Ingles totaled five strikeouts.
