ResultsMARYVILLE, Mo. - Going for their third straight win over a nationally ranked opponent, the Newman men's tennis team came up short, 6-3, at No. 16 Northwest Missouri on Friday (March 6) at the Frank Grube Courts. The Jets dropped to 6-3 in the spring.
NU started out great, winning two of the three courts in doubles competition.
Eduardo Santos and
Alejandro Gonzalez pulled out to an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles.
Evgeniy Kim and
Jose Enrique Coiras faced a tough test at No. 2 doubles, taking on regionally ranked Fin Glowick and Josef Altmann. The Jets lost a close match, 9-6. At No. 3 doubles,
Max Pyle and
Jeff Wherritt got a close 9-8 win over Maruo Tete and Hicham Azzaoui.
The Jets could only get one win in singles competition.
Diego Rojo Fernandez won in straight sets by the score of 6-2, 6-4 over Azzaoui at No. 4 singles. Playing his toughest competition yet, Santos fell to No. 27-ranked Romain Boissinot 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. In the No. 2 singles match, Gonzalez lost 7-5, 6-3 to Tete. Kim went down 6-1, 7-5 to regionally ranked Altmann at No. 3 singles. Glowick defeated Enrique Coiras at No. 5 singles by the score of 6-2, 6-1. Wherritt lost 6-0, 6-0 to Aymeric Autonoes at No. 6 singles.
NU plays at McPherson College tomorrow (March 7) at 11 a.m. in McPherson, Kan.
