MCPHERSON, Texas – The Newman men's tennis team got back on track with a 7-2 win at McPherson College on Saturday (March 7) at McPherson High School. The Jets moved to 9-4 on the season.
NU started by winning two of the three doubles courts.
Eduardo Santos and
Alejandro Gonzalez got a 8-4 victory at No. 1doubles. The Jets also got a win at No. 2 doubles with
Evgeniy Kim and
Jose Enrique Coiras getting a close 9-7 victory.
The Jets won five of the six singles courts. Santos lost the first set and then came back with back-to-back 6-2, 6-2 wins to come out victorious at No. 1 singles. At No. 2 singles, Gonzalez cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 win. Kim also dropped his first set 6-1, and then he won the next two 6-3, 6-2 to get the victory at No. 3 singles.
Diego Rojo Fernandez pulled out to a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles. In the No. 5 singles match, Coiras won by a 6-3, 6-2 decision.
NU is back in action on at Southeastern Oklahoma State on Friday (March 13) at 3 p.m. in Durant, Okla.
