DALLAS – The Newman men's and women's tennis teams are set to play in the Heartland Conference Tournament on Friday (April 24) at the Kiest Tennis Center. The tournament had the top four seeds from the regular season for each the men and women.
The Lady Jets play No. 1-seeded St. Mary's on Friday at 9 a.m. at the upper six courts. NU is seeded No. 4. In the other semifinals match, No. 2 St. Edward's takes on No. 3 Dallas Baptist. That match also starts at 9 a.m. at the lower six courts.
The women's championship match will be played on Saturday (April 25) at 9 a.m. The winner of the two semifinals will meet.
The Jets are the No. 3 seed in the men's tournament. They also play St. Mary's, which is the No. 2 seed. The dual starts at 1 p.m. on the lower six courts. In the other semifinals, No. 1 St. Edward's plays No. 4 UA Fort Smith at 1 p.m. at the upper six courts.
The men's championship match will be played on Saturday at 1 p.m. between the winners of the two semifinals.
The NU women's team is currently ranked No. 46 in the nation and went 18-4 this season and 2-3 in the Heartland Conference. They were ranked for the first time in NCAA Division II school history. No. 1-player
Kate Bugayenko is ranked No. 17 in the South Central Region, and No. 1-player
Lisa Pleskan ranks No. 20 in the region.
The men's team is currently 16-9 and 3-2 in the Heartland Conference. The Jets are ranked No. 7 in the South Central Region. No. 1 player
Eduardo Santos has been named the Heartland Conference Player of the Week six times. He is regionally ranked in the South Central.
