WICHITA, Kan. – Continuing its long home stretch, the Newman women's basketball team wraps up its final nonconference games against William Jewell Saturday and Kansas Christian Tuesday at Fugate Gymnasium.
The Jets (8-2) went up against Central Christian on Dec. 1 and took down the Tigers 88-42 in front of the home crowd. Newman then went up against Southwestern College Monday evening and handed the Moundbuilders a 79-51 defeat.
William Jewell (4-3) took on Truman State Saturday at home, holding on to a close 68-63 victory over the Bulldogs. The Cardinals played Rockhurst University Thursday on the road, losing 70-61 to the Hawks.
Newman will take on Kansas Christian Tuesday evening for the first time in program history.
NOTES
-The Jets enter the game on Saturday on an eight-game winning streak, which is the longest since winning 11 straight games during the 2011-12 season.
-
Mali Wright posted a double-double for the first time this season against Southwestern College on Monday, recording 23 points and 10 rebounds. The 23 points and 10 rebounds are both season highs for her.
-Newman moved up into the No. 5 spot in the South Central Region media poll, sponsored by DII SIDA.
-William Jewell is led by Maddie Nelson, who is averaging 15.3 PPG, 6.7 RPG and 5.0 APG.
