WICHITA, Kan. — Putting together a third straight superb performance, the Newman women's tennis team earned a 9-0 win over Colorado State-Pueblo in its first in-region match of the season Saturday afternoon at Riverside Park.
The Jets (7-2) didn't drop a set against the ThunderWolves, with Vanessa Brill and Ariana Raga gutting out a tough 9-7 victory at No. 1 doubles as the rest of the matches went Newman's way fairly easily. Kate Bugayenko and Kateryna Stoianova teamed up for a win at No. 2 doubles, while that pair, as well as Tamar Tskhakaia, each dropped only two games in straight-set victories in singles.
Raga won her sixth consecutive singles match, and Brill capped the five singles wins, as the Jets earned victories by default at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles to lock up the sweep.
The Jets are back in action Monday, starting a busy week with their first Heartland Conference match of the season at Dallas Baptist.
