DALLAS — Getting its Heartland Conference schedule started with a bang, the Newman men's tennis team took down Dallas Baptist 9-0 Monday morning to start a busy week of matches.
The Jets (4-5, 1-0 Heartland) got started on the right foot, as doubles teams of Eduardo Santos and Jose Enrique Coiras, and Max Pyle and Ajani King each picked up 8-5 wins over the Patriots (7-4, 0-3 Heartland), and No. 3 doubles pair of Andre Ebinal and Diego Rojo Fernandez earned an 8-1 win.
The 3-0 lead held up, as Nos. 2-6 singles all won in straight sets, dropping just 15 total games across that stretch. Santos had a bit more of a challenge at top singles, but bounced back after dropping the first set to earn a tough 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) victory there.
Newman stays in Dallas for a neutral site match Tuesday, when they'll face off against Colorado Mesa.
