WICHITA, Kan. — Closing out a long stretch of games against tough competition over the past two weeks, the Newman women's tennis team rolled to a 7-2 victory over Northwest Missouri State Tuesday morning at West Genesis Health Club.
The Jets (11-3) picked up their seventh team victory in their past eight tries by sweeping the doubles competition and grabbing four more wins in singles play. Ariana Raga and Vanessa Brill, Kate Bugayenko and Kateryna Stoianova, and Tamar Tskhakaia and Emily Wise all won tough matches in doubles to work the hosts out to a 3-0 lead before singles got started.
Raga didn't drop a set in her singles win at No. 5, and Bugayenko, Stoianova and Tskhakaia all won in straight sets to earn their second individual wins of the day, clinching the win before the Bearcats (5-5), who are ranked eighth in the Central Region, could get their footing.
The Jets now get their longest break since the spring season began, as they wait until April 2, when they host Arkansas-Fort Smith in their second Heartland Conference match.
