WICHITA, Kan. — Forced to switch its lineup, the Newman women's tennis team didn't seem fazed, as it rolled to an 8-1 nonconference victory over Emporia State Tuesday afternoon at Riverside Park.
The Jets (14-5) had to shuffle their lineup with Ariana Raga sidelined with an illness, but still swept doubles and took five of the six singles matches against the Hornets (10-10).
Kate Bugayenko and Kateryna Stoianova moved to top doubles and picked up an 8-3 win, while Vanessa Brill, who normally teams with Raga, teamed up with Tamar Tskhakaia and won 8-6 at No. 2. Emily Wise and Marit Lemmens added a win at No. 3, and Bugayenko, Stoianova, Tskhakaia, Wise and Lemmens all added straight-set victories in singles play.
The Jets still have three road matches left in their regular season, beginning with a trip to Fort Hays State Saturday.
