TOPEKA, Kan. — Continuing its brutal schedule, the Newman men's tennis team fell to No. 25 Washburn 5-1 Sunday afternoon.
The Jets (6-11) picked up a win at No. 3 doubles, with Diego Rojo Fernandez and Andre Ebinal teaming up for a quick 8-1 victory to start the guests off with a point, but the Ichabods (13-4) turned it up from there, winning 8-4 at the other two doubles and grabbing wins at the top three singles before sealing the victory.
Ebinal fought but dropped a three-set decision at No. 3 singles, while the Jets were in the third set in unfinished matches at Nos. 5 and 6.
Newman heads back to Wichita for its final home match of the season Tuesday against Emporia State. Seniors from both the men's and women's tennis teams will be honored after the match.
