WICHITA, Kan. — Taking advantage of a sun-splashed afternoon in the middle of the recent gloomy weather, the Newman men's tennis team closed the home portion of its schedule with a 7-2 victory over Emporia State Tuesday at Riverside Park.
The Jets (7-11) built a 2-1 lead after doubles, as Eduardo Santos and Jose Enrique Coiras grabbed an 8-4 win and Diego Rojo Fernandez and Andre Ebinal teamed up for an 8-2 victory. Fernandez had the toughest win for Newman in singles, grabbing a 7-5, 6-3 triumph at No. 4.
Alejandro Gonzalez, Santos, Ebinal and Ajani King all earned relatively easy straight-set victories to lock up the victory.
Newman hits the road this weekend for its final two matches of the regular season, facing Texas-Permian Basin Friday and Cameron Saturday.
