DALLAS — Getting a second chance against a top-30 St. Edward's side, the Newman men's tennis team fell 5-0 in its semifinal match at the Heartland Conference Men's Tennis Championship Friday morning.
The Jets (8-13) played three competitive doubles matches with the No. 28 Hilltoppers (10-13) at the SMU Tennis Complex, but fell in a trio of close results to go down 3-0 heading to singles. There, SEU picked up wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles to clinch and end the match with the other four singles still on the court.
Newman will now have to wait and see if it receives an at-large bid to the South Central Region tournament. Those selections will be released May 3.
