WICHITA, Kan. —The Newman women's basketball team won a well-played game Wednesday beating Manhattan Christian 92-31. The Jets were riding momentum from the weekend winning two straight behind good defense and the team continued to move the ball offensively scoring in bunches, this would help in Wednesday night's victory.
KEY SEQUENCE
The Jets (4-0) started off the game running, and with the help of some good defense and being able to set up the offense, the Jets were able to go up big on the Thunder (1-3). The Jets came out hot at the start, scoring the first 17 points of the game to cruise to a 61-point victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-In the first quarter the Jets started fast, scoring on most opportunities given to them. The Jets defense showed up early holding the Thunder to four points in the first quarter. Behind baskets from Monica Hanna and Hannah Alexander, the Jets were able to continue playing and not slow down the scoring.
-The soaring continued in the second quarter, as the bench was able to get into a groove and provide good minutes and offense. Mel George, Abbey George and Haley Albers were all able to get in on the scoring, as the Jets would add on to a sizable lead to close out the quarter.
-The second half started off just like the first for the Jets, continuing the scoring along with physical defense causing turnovers and missed shots. The bench continued to put in good minutes, continuing to score in bunches and provide defense as well. Nia Roberts added on to the scoring and Hanna continued to have a good game.
-In the fourth quarter the scoring continued to come in bunches and it was provided by a number of players. The lead grew to 56 late in the quarter and the Jets would add on and get the victory 92-31.
NOTES
-The Jets were able to move the ball a lot offensively, raking up 27 assists total, their most since dishing out 31 against Kansas Christian last season.
-Hanna was able to work offensively in the post, tallying a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Albers also picked up the first double-double of her Newman career, going for a team-high 18 points to go with 10 boards.
-The Jets have now won 14 consecutive nonconference games, dating back to Nov. 12, 2016.

-The Jets will be back in action Friday, going up against Nebraska-Kearney in Hays, Kansas.
