Newman Set To Host Two Conference Games

WICHITA, Kan. – After finishing out back-to-back weekends on the road and playing a makeup game at home Monday, the Newman women's basketball team continues its stretch of home conference games against Rogers State Thursday and Arkansas-Fort Smith Saturday.

Thursday will be Cancer Awareness Night, in partnership with the American Cancer Society, and will feature a luminaria ceremony at halftime of the men's game. Saturday is the Hall of Fame games, with the 2017 inductees introduced at the men's halftime. 

SCOUTING NEWMAN
 
The Jets (14-8, 4-6 Heartland) got back into the win column after taking down the defending Division II national champion Lubbock Christian Lady Chaps 61-60 Monday evening at Fugate gymnasium. Before that Newman traveled to Oklahoma Christian Thursday and St. Edward's Saturday. The Jets lost to the Eagles 86-79 and the Hilltoppers 83-64.

The Hillcats (6-14, 2-8 Heartland) hosted Texas A&M International on Thursday and took down the Dustdevils 62-41. Rogers State then took on St. Mary's at home on Saturday but lost 71-57 to the Rattlers.

HISTORY LESSON
 
The Jets hold a 5-2 all-time record over the Hillcats. Both teams met earlier this season on Jan. 2 at Rogers State, which Newman won 74-61.
 
UAFS holds a 10-6 all-time record over Newman. The previous game between the two teams came on Dec. 31 of this season at Fort Smith, Arkansas, which the Lions won 79-62.
 
NOTES
 
-The Jets have not lost a home game since Dec. 19 of this season, winning back-to-back home conference games against Oklahoma Panhandle State and Lubbock Christian.
 
-Newman is currently in sixth place in the conference standings after playing 10 games thus far and are three games back from third place with six games left in the regular season.
 
-The Jets still lead the conference in turnover margin at 4.8 and forced turnovers per game at 19.4.
