GOODWELL, Okla. – After waiting a full week to get back out on the court, the Newman women's basketball team got out to a hot start and did not look back, defeating Oklahoma Panhandle State 73-58 on the road Saturday afternoon.
KEY SEQUENCE
It would not take long for the Jets (17-8, 7-6 Heartland) to get things started against the Aggies (1-20, 0-13 Heartland), controlling the game from the start by having a 7-0 run, 9-0 run and a 16-0 run all in the first half of play, which would keep OPSU playing catch up throughout the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Natalia Hausmann would get the first basket of the game for either team with a layup, followed by a
Cierra Tjaden layup to put the Jets up 4-0 with 8:28 in the first quarter.
-Newman would stretch its lead out to 11-2 thanks to a 7-0 run midway through the first quarter.
Hannah Alexander led the way with three points during the run, while
Mali Wright and Hausmann each had two.
-The Jets would bust the game open in the latter part of the first quarter, which bled into the second quarter byway of a 16-0 run to put the score at 27-4 with 9:51 to go in the second quarter. During the 16-0 run Alexander led the way in scoring with seven points, while Wright added four,
Bria DeGrate with three and Iva Krstevka chipped in two.
-Another run would ensue after the 16-0 but this time it was a 9-0 run to put Newman up 36-7 with 5:30 remaining in the second quarter. Alexander would get the jumper to go first, followed by two DeGrate free throws, which led to a Krstevska 3-pointer and finally a
Jazzmen Ortiz layup would finish the 9-0 run. The Jets would lead the Aggies 46-19 at the half.
-Hausmann would lead the Jets with seven points in the third quarter of play. Tjaden added three points, while Wright and DeGrate both had two points each, which helped make the score 60-37 heading into the final quarter of play.

Sheanna James led Newman in scoring in the fourth quarter with six points.
Kendra Butler and Hausmann each had two points in the fourth, while DeGrate and Ortiz each chipped in one to make the final score 73-58.

NOTES
-With the win over Oklahoma Panhandle State on the road, the Jets have now won four consecutive Heartland Conference games dating back to Jan. 30 against Lubbock Christian at home.
-Hausmann recorded a season-high in points with 16 today. Her previous high was 14 points against Midwestern State back on Nov. 20 this season.
