SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Facing tough competition from the Midwest Region this weekend, the Newman women's tennis team fell in a pair of matches to Drury and Lewis.
The Jets (2-4) started their weekend against No. 20 Drury (6-0), falling 9-0. Janneke de Rijk forced a third set at No. 2 singles before falling in the tiebreak, and teamed up with Tamar Tskhakaia at No. 1 doubles in a competitive 8-4 match.
Newman grabbed some wins in Saturday afternoon's meeting with Lewis, as Niamh Packer and Marit Lemmens won in straight sets at No. 4 and No. 6 singles. At No. 3 singles, Emily Wise and Mariana Guvaria grabbed an 8-1 victory, but the Flyers won the match, 6-3.
The Jets hit the road for a single match next weekend, facing Washburn on Saturday.
