WICHITA, Kan. — After putting together a solid day to split a doubleheader, the Newman softball team dropped a 3-0 contest to Oklahoma Christian Saturday morning at Newman Softball Field.
The Jets (9-29, 3-6 Heartland) got out of jams, allowing the Eagles (23-15, 6-3 Heartland) to score just single runs in three different innings, but they couldn't get much offense of their own going on a cold day.
Oklahoma Christian managed to get going early with a run in the first, but Newman starter Jensen Cromer left the bases loaded to limit the damage. A pair of errors helped the guests push across another in the third, before Kate Smith stranded a pair, and she stranded three in the sixth after OC scored its third run.
Newman got a runner on in each of the last four innings, but couldn't break out with a run.
Mikayla Medbery, Taylor Mannis, Erin Jankiewicz and Kendra Mendoza each put up a hit for Newman, with Medbery's double in the sixth pushing her hitting streak to eight games.
Newman hits the road for a Heartland Conference series at St. Mary's next weekend.
