Jets Roll Past Randall To Close Nonconference Play

WICHITA, Kan. — The Newman women's basketball team was able to take home a victory in their last nonconference game of the season, defeating Randall University 95-43 Wednesday. The Jets were able to bring their momentum from the weekend into this nonconference matchup.

KEY SQUENCE

The Jets (13-7) came out of the halftime break on a 7-0 run, extending their lead over the Saints (9-9) in the beginning of the third quarter. The offense began to come easy to the Jets with help from Hannah Alexander, Nia Roberts, and Haley Albers. The Jets would continue their offensive streak in the fourth and get the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-The first quarter for the Jets would have a quick start, with the hosts going up 6-0 early and giving the Saints fits on offense. Offense coming from Alexander and Erica Olerich the Jets would finish off the quarter strong and a six-point edge.

-In the second, the Jets defense continued to give the Saints trouble and the offense continued to run smooth. Scoring coming from Albers, Roberts and Jazzmen Ortiz, the Jets would continue to add on their score and at the half, the team was up 46-27.

-The Jets would come out of halftime firing, scoring the first seven points of the half. With help from the defense, the Jets were able to get turnovers and steals, which led to more offense. Bria DeGrate, Braxtyn Stewart, and Iva Krstevska all got into the scoring mode and at the end of the quarter; the Jets saw their lead increase to 40.

-In the fourth, the Jets would control the tempo, giving themselves every opportunity to score or get a stop on defense, adding onto their lead in the process. Alexander, Roberts, and DeGrate would all add on to their good scoring games in the fourth, and that output would give the Jets the victory.
