Tennis Competes at ITA South-Central Regional Championships
WICHITA FALLS, TEX – The Newman University men's and women's tennis team is nearing the end of their fall season as they traveled to Wichita Falls for the 2018 Fall ITA l South Central Regional Chamionshipl. The Jets took ten athletes down to compete in the A flight of the event.
On the women's singles side of the tournament, Vlada Litvinova proved to be the workhorse playing in six total matches on the weekend, falling (7-6, 7-6) wrapping the weekend as runner up on the consolation side of the bracket.
The Jets only entered two double teams on the women's side. Isabela Compos Bifano / Emily Young fell in quarterfinals (8-2) and Elizaveta Gerasimova / Vlada Litvinova also fell in quarterfinals (8-5).
The men's side of things Arthur Justo made it to the quarterfinals before falling (6-0, 6-4) to #3 seed Chase Bartlett from St. Edwards University. Blake Crawford fell in the consolation round of 16's in three sets (6-4, 5-7 and 11-9).
Men's entered three double teams in a highly filled contest. The Jets advanced two pairs into the round of 16. Marcei Miasato / Arthur fell (8-5) in the round. Szabin Pusztay / Blake Crawford also came up short falling (8-4). Ajani King / Tendor Antelj fell in first round (8-4), bounced back strong before falling in the consolation quarterfinals (8-5).

Emily Young: Lost to Christine Roerick (Western New Mexico University) 6-4, 6-3; Defeated Maria Delgadillo (Angelo State University) 6-1, 6-4; Lost Rani Goodland (St. Mary's) 6-3, 6-0.
Vlada Litvinova: Lost to Zoe Gubbels (Angelo State University) 6-4, 6-4; Defeated Shelby Fillingame (Tarleton State University) 6-4, 6-3; Defeated Alex Pessoa (Metropolitan State of Denver) 6-4, 6-2. Defeated Lea Cizeron (Midwestern State University) 6-3, 6-4; Defeated Claire Nguyen (Dallas Baptist) by default; Fell in Consolation Finals to Rani Goodland (St. Mary's) 7-6, 7-6.
Isabela Campos: Defeated Ana Zaidan (University of Texas at Tyler) 6-2, 6-1; Lost to Paoia Carpio (St. Edward's University) 6-1, 6-1.

The Jets will host a home scrimmage Thursday at 2 p.m. against Barton Community College at Riverside Park in Wichita, KS. The Jets will wrap up their fall portion of the season Oct. 12th and 13th in the Collin CC Invitation in Plano, TX.
