Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Kicking off a string of tough matches against Division II opponents, the Newman women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season in a tight 5-4 match against Lewis Saturday.
Kateryna Stoianova gutted out a tough singles match at No. 3, bouncing back from a first-set defeat to earn a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 win to get the Jets (8-1) to within one point of clinch. With only the No. 4 court still going, Lewis (3-2) got a tough three-set win to earn the narrow victory.
Newman was scheduled for a match Friday evening against Drury, but that match was postponed, with a makeup date to be determined.
Newman heads home to start a four-match homestand over the next two weeks, beginning with Washburn on March 3.
