DURANT, Okla. — The Newman Softball team was able to pick up their first win of the season as the Jets defeated host Southeastern Oklahoma State Sunday 4-1. The Jets were able to score early and keep the storm of base late for the victory.
Key Sequence
The Jets were looking at a 1-0 Storm lead going into the top of the third inning, the Jets were looking to make something happen early. Adrienne Esposito would come up and get Newman Started when she singled to center field, with the bases loaded Bailey Bugner would come up big with a double to right center giving the Jets a 3-1 lead and Erin Jankiewicz would come up and score another Jets run giving Newman a 4-1 lead and later the victory.
How It Happened
-The Storm got on the board early, when Keeshia Thompson got the team started with a double to right center she would later move to third on a sacrifice bunt by Sydnee Hinkle. Elexis Watson would come up with a runner on third and she would produce that run with a single to the left side.
-In the Top of the third, the Jets went on a scoring run of their own when the team was able to work the count and see a lot of pitches. Esposito came up with a single to center, Bayley Horsch would later walk putting the Jets in a good position to score. Delaney Hiegert was able to single to load the bases and with infielder Bugner coming up the Jets had a good opportunity to get on the board. The freshman would come up big in her at-bat when she doubled to right center plating three runs and giving the Jets the lead. The Jets would tack on one more run when they would get a single from Jankiewicz scoring Bugner and giving the Jets a 4-1 lead and later the victory.
Notes
-The Jets were able to come up big at the plate in Sunday's game out hitting the Storm 11-6.
-DomiNique Payne had a great day pitching only giving up six hits, two walks, striking out seven and the lone run while going for the complete game.

The Jets will be traveling to Grand Prairie, Texas Feb. 9-11 for the North Texas Softball Bash.
