WARRENSBURG, Mo. — The No. 22 ranked Newman University wrestling team cruised easily in their first MIAA dual of the season, defeating Central Missouri 39-9, Wednesday evening (Jan. 9). Kameron Frame, Noah Perkins, Nate Panagakins all recorded falls during a 30-0, Newman run. The Jets improved to 2-0 on the year and started conference play 1-0.
The Jets quickly fell behind 6-0 after a forfeit in the 125-pound weight class, however the Jets quickly rebounded strongly taking full control of the match from that point on.
Tyler Lawley (133-pounds) put the Jets on the board, 6-4, after an impressive start early in the match. Lawley cruised past John Feeney with a 15-3 major decision.
Junior, Kevin Kissane (141-pounds) notched his 15th victory of the season winning a 22-16, high scoring affair against Dakota Thevel. The Jets regained the lead for the first and final time, 7-6.
In the (149-pounds) Kameron Frame quickly went to work beginning the 2019 portion of the schedule with a 2:26 first period fall over Aaron Baker, giving the Jets a 13-6 match lead.
No. 3 Tyler Mies (157-pounds) picked up his fourth tech-fall of the season early in the second period (3:35) over Austin Morgan. Mies extended the Jets lead to 18-6 at the halfway point of the dual.
Noah Perkins (165-pounds) defeated Cole Hatfield just 35 seconds into the second period with his 10th pin of the season, extending the Jets lead to 24-6.
In the (174-pounds) Nate Panagakis claimed the match for the Jets with a 1:02 pin over Joe Brady, extending the 30-0, Jets run.
In the (184-pounds), Ivan Balavage dropped a heartbreaking 6-5, decision loss to Dominique Hampton. The Mules picked up three points, halting the Jets 30-0 run.
Jake Stoneberger (197-pounds) outlasted Martin Brunnert in the three period match picking up a 7-3 decision victory, extending the Jets lead, 33-9.
In the final match of the dual, Thor Balavage defeated Chase Miller with a third period pin in the (285-pounds).

The Jets will continue the road trip on Sunday morning (Jan. 13) at 10 a.m. in Hays, Kan. for the Kansas Cup.
