Men's and Women's Tennis traveled to Oklahoma City to participate in the ITA Central Regionals
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Jets traveled to Oklahoma City Oklahoma to compete in the ITA Central Regionals this past weekend. Unfortunately, the Jets couldn't home any championships but they had a few good finishes in this tournament.
On the Women's side,
Vlada Litvinova placed the best on the team making it to the Quarterfinal in the backdraw of bracket A. She was first defeated by Michelle Khoo of Arkansas Tech, who is ranked #5, 6-3, 6-3. She then went to the consolation rounds and defeated Ethne Dowling of Oklahoma Baptist 6-2. She then went on to face Giada Zorzan of Southern Arkansas and won 9-8. She was trying to keep her season going against Zhanel Turarbek of Nebraska Kearney, who was ranked #15, but Litvinova was defeated by Turarbek 8-3.
On the Men's side, Arthur Justo made it to the sweet sixteen before falling to #2 Seeded Juan Scoppetta of Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
Lauri Soome made it to the semifinals of the backdraw of bracket A. Justo, who was seeded #15 in the bracket, first defeated Dan Kaplun of Ouachita Baptist 6-3, 6-1. Then he went on to face Rhett Rollins of Oklahoma Baptist who Justo defeated 6-1, 6-1. Justo, who was looking to keep the momentum alive faced Juan Scoppetta of Southeastern Oklahoma State, who was seeded #2 in the tournament. Justo unfortunately drops the match 7-5, 6-2 to Scoppette.
Lauri Soome lost his first match to Fransico Olivera of Ouachita Baptist, 6-2, 6-3. He then went to the Consolation rounds to take on Aleksandr Pokusaev of Southern Arkansas. Soome defeated Pokusaev 8-2. Soome then faced Agustin Velasco of New Mexico State University who was seeded 14
th in the tournament. Soome defeated Velasco 8-6. Soome then faced Taylor Nelson of Emporia State in the next round. Soome defeated Nelson 9-8 (7-5) to reach the semifinals. Soome was bringing the momentum he had into a match against Chase Brill of Washburn University. Where unfortunately Soome was defeated by Brill after winning the first set, 3-6, 6-4, 11-9.
What's Next
The Jets will be back in action in the spring semester as their fall season is completed.
