League coaches pick Newman to finish 8th; Media 9th
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Coming into their first season in a new conference, Newman University Women's Basketball team was picked to finish eighth in the 2019 MIAA Conference Preseason Coaches Poll and ninth in the MIAA Media Poll, announced Wednesday morning by the conference.
Newman picked up 83 votes from league coaches. Fort Hays State are the preseason favorites after going 32-2 in 2018 and falling to #7 Southwestern Oklahoma State in the NCAA DII tournament Central Region Finals.
The Jets return three starters from last years team and their leading scorer
Kaitlyn Potter (13.5 PPG), who came off of the bench. Newman does return an older roster than from a season ago, including six juniors and two seniors.
Newman opens the 2019 season at home vs. Ouachita Baptist and East Central University in the Clarion Inn Central Region Challenge on November 8 and November 9.
