CLAREMORE, Okla. — The Newman softball team was upended 2-0 in the series finale against Rogers State on Saturday afternoon (Mar. 23). The Jets drop to 8-18 on the season and fall to 2-13 in Heartland Conference play, while the Hillcats move to 24-10 on the season and 11-6 in conference play.
After waiting for over three hours before first pitch due to rain and lightning in the area, the Hillcats scored one run in the first and never looked back adding an insurance run in the third.
The Jets managed to muster just two hits in the effort coming from catcher, Emma Eck and shortstop, Baily Bugner.
Chantel Purcella (3-5) got the start working six-innings allowing two runs on six hits walking four and striking out five Hillcats in the loss.
The Jets will begin a five game homestead on Wednesday (Mar. 27) against Texas A&M International.
