LAST TIME OUT

The Jets would defeat the Lincoln Blue Tigers 82-46. Newman would dominate the first half outscoring Lincoln (3-9, 0-3) 42-20, thanks to their outside shooting. The Jets went 7-12 from 3 point range in the first half. The Jets defense was also going this afternoon as they forced 26 Blue Tiger turnovers that led to 14 points. In the third quarter, the Jets would pull away from the Blue Tigers outscoring them 30-11 in the quarter, their second 30 point quarter of the season. Newman would get their biggest lead of the afternoon as a 3 point basket by Kaitlyn Potter took the lead to 41, 72-31. Newman matched the 41 point lead twice in the fourth quarter as well on their way to a 82-46 victory.

THE COACHES
Darin Spence is in his eighth season as the Jets head coach, leading the Jets to a 7-6 record so far in the 2019-20 season. Spence has compiled a 567-307 record as a head women's basketball coach over a 28-year span across NCAA Division I and Division II, NAIA, and
NJCAA schools. His seven years with the Jets have seen him amass a record of 113-96 overall and a 59-53 mark in Heartland Conference play. Under Spence's tenure, the Jets reached the Heartland Conference tournament in six of his seven seasons. Before coming to Newman, Spence spent one season at Barton Community College and eight seasons at Division I New Mexico State.
Dave Slifer enters his 16th season at the helm of the Jennies in the 2019-20 season. He had led the Jennies to nine NCAA postseason berths and a National Championship in 2017-18 with the Jennies best record in team history.


ABOUT THE JETS
Newman is 7-6 on the season, 2-2 in their first season in the
MIAA. Newman has one player averaging double digits this season, Kaitlyn Potter at 16.3 points per game.  Abbey George leads the Jets in rebounding at 4.1 rebounds per game. 

ABOUT THE JENNIES
Central Missouri is 9-3 on the season, 3-0 in the
MIAA. The Jennies have three players averaging double figures led by senior guard Megan Skaggs at 16.5 points per game.  Junior forward Nija Collier leads the team in rebounding at 8.3 per game.

SERIES HISTORY
This will be the second meeting between these schools with Central Missouri leading the series against the Jets 1-0 with the latest matchup being Nov. 21, 2014 in Rolla, Mo. where the Jennies knocked off the Jets 60-47.

LAST TIME VS CENTAL MISSOURI

A late run from No. 20 Central Missouri downed the Newman women's basketball team, 60-47, on Friday (Nov. 21) at the Lady Miner Classic. With the Jets trailing by only one at 39-38 after a Naomi Rosales free throw with 10:28 remaining, UCM scored eight straight points to pull out to a 47-38 advantage with 7:46 left.
A basket from Cierra Tjaden and a triple from Sierra Maykus cut the deficit to four points at 47-43 at the 5:57 mark; however, NU couldn't close the margin to less than four points. After UCM free throws, Tjaden made a jumper to slice the deficit back to four at 49-45. The Jennies ended the game with an 11-2 run for the 60-47 final score.

MIAA conference matchup on Thursday, Jan. 9th, 2020 starting at 5:30 P.M.
