SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Newman Jets Women's Tennis team took to Missouri to take on Oklahoma Baptist and Drury over the weekend. On Saturday, the Jets would defeat the Bison of Oklahoma Baptist 4-3 before falling to the Panthers of Drury on Sunday 6-1.
The Jets would sweep the Bison in doubles on Saturday as
Emily Young and
Antonia Ramos would pair up to take down Anagrova and Noel 6-3.
Marie Brunet and
Isabela Campos Bifano would take down Tan and Lamas 6-4. Partners
Lauren Esfeld and Mirela D'Angelo Cavalcanti would take down Clark and Helm 6-2.
Emily Young playing in the first singles spot would fall to Tan after winning the first set 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Marie Brunet would play in the second spot and would fall to Noel 6-2, 6-4.
Isabela Campos Bifano would pick up the win in the third singles spot 6-0, 6-0. Antonio Ramos would follow suit picking up a 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 victory.
Mirella D'Angelo Cavalcanti would defeat helm 6-0, 6-0. And
Lauren Esfeld would fall to Clark 6-4, 6-2.
On Sunday against Drury, Brunet and Campos Bifano would pick up the Jets only doubles victory as they would defeat Jedrychowski and Mukherjee 7-6. Young and Ramos would fall to Eremina and Zheleva 6-4. Cavalcanti and Esfeld would fall 6-3 to De La Torre and Kuehnle.
In singles, Young would pick up the only win for the Jets as she would again be in the number one singles spot. She would take down Jedrychowski after losing the first set, 5-6, 6-1, 6-4. Brunet would fall to abazi 6-2, 6-3. Campos Bifano would fall to Zheleva 7-6, 6-1. Ramos would fall to Kuhnle 6-4, 6-2. Cavalcanti would be defeated by Eremina 6-2, 6-1. Esfeld would fall to De La Torre 6-1, 6-0.
The Jets will be back on the court on Saturday February, 27
th at 3:00 pm as they take on Tabor College at Genesis Socoro.
