WICHITA, Kan. - The Newman Women's Tennis team hosted Tabor College and Cowley this past weekend. The Jets would take down Tabor College 7-0 but lose a tough one to Cowley by a final score of 6-1.
Tabor College - W 7-0
Newman would sweep the doubles matches against Tabor College.
Emily Young and
Antonia Ramos defeated Brubacher/Wait 6-1.
Isabela Campos Bifano and
Marie Brunet defeated Richard/Blair 6-0. In the final doubles match,
Mirella D'Angelo Cavalcanti and
Lauren Esfeld defeated Roth/Yutzy 6-2.
Young, playing #1 singles, would defeat Brubacher 6-2, 6-1. Brunet would take down Richard 6-2, 6-0. Bifano would defeat Blair 6-0, 6-0. Ramos would defeat Roth 6-2, 6-4. Cavalcanti would defeat Yutzy 6-1, 6-0. In the final singles match, Esfeld would defeat Ariana Miller-Wyse 6-0, 6-4.
Cowley - L 6-1
In the doubles matches the Jets would pick up one win out of the three matches. In the first doubles match,
Emily Young and
Antonia Ramos would fall to Rebreyend/Quezada 7-5.
Isabela Campos Bifano and
Marie Brunet would pick up the win over Ibarra/ Rodriguez 6-4. In the final doubles match,
Mirella D'Angelo Cavalcanti and
Lauren Esfeld fell to Hernandez, and V. Rodriguez 6-3.
Young would play #1 singles in this match, falling to I. Hernandez 7-5, 6-4. Brunet would go down in defeat falling to Rebreyend 6-2, 6-4. Bifano would also go down in defeat falling to Quezada in three sets 2-6, 6-4, 0-6. Ramos would fall to Ibarra 6-2, 3-0 retiring in the second set. Cavalcanti would pick up the win for the Jets defeating Lumanog 7-5, 6-3. The final match, Esfeld fell to Do Lago 6-1, 6-0.

The Jets will be back in action next weekend March 5-7
