WICHITA, Kan. – The Men's Tennis team took on Sterling College and Barton Community College last week going 1-1. The Jets would defeat the Sterling Warriors 7-0 and would fall to the Barton Cougars 4-3.
In doubles against the Warriors, the Jets would not give up a single set point as
Arthur Esteves Justo and
Gustavo Gil would pair up to take down Comley and Comley 6-0.
Luca Penteado and
Gabriel Yaguar would defeat Alonzo and Gladson 6-0.
Teodor Antelj and
Jarrod Nowak would defeat Lee and Hash 6-0.
Justo would continue his dominance as he would not give up a point in the #1 singles spot winning 6-0, 6-0. Antelj would defeat Alonzo 6-2, 6-0. Gil would follow in his doubles partners footsteps as he would not give up a point on the day either winning 6-0, 6-0. Yaguar would beat Lee 6-0, 6-2. Penteado and Nowak would both win their matches 6-0, 6-1 to complete the sweep on the court for the Jets.
The Cougars would take the first two doubles matches as Justo and Gil would fall 6-2 and Penteado and Yaguar 6-3. Antelj and Nowak would pick up the only doubles win for Newman as they would take the 6-2 victory.
Gil would play in the #1 singles spot for Newman as he would fall 6-2 and 6-4. Justo would win the first set of his match 6-4, but his opponent would win the next set 6-2 to force a third set. A set that Justo would drop 10-4. Antelj would pick up the first singles victory for Newman 6-4, 7-5. Yaguar would follow Antelj picking up a 6-4, 6-7, 10-4 victory. Penteado would drop a three set match 6-7(7), 6-3, 11-9. Nowak would pick up the final victory for Newman in a 6-4, 7-6(5).
The Jets will be back in action on Friday, March 26
th as they take on Northwest Missouri in MIAA/GAC Conference play in Maryville, Mo.
