WICHITA, Kan. – In their final regular season series, the Newman Jets Softball team took on the Lopers of Nebraska Kearney for Senior Day. In game one, the Jets would fall 7-4, and in game two the Jets would fall 13-0 in 5 innings.
Newman would strike first in game one with a single by
Kaitlyn Praught an error would occur on the play by the Loper pitcher to give the Jets an early 1-0 lead. The Lopers would respond in the top of the 2
nd scoring twice on 2 RBI singles. UNK would add another run in the top of the 3
rd with an RBI sac fly to extend their lead to 3-1. The Lopers would add another run in the 5
th on an RBI single. Kearney would tack on one in the 6
th and 2 in the 7
th to extend their lead to 7-1. The Jets would make it interesting in the bottom of the 7
th scoring 3 times on 3 hits, but would ultimately come up short as the Lopers would take game one by a final score of 7-4.
In game 2, the Lopers would start the scoring off with a two run homerun to gain an early lead. Nebraska Kearney would add two more in the top of the 2
nd on RBI singles to extend their lead to 4-0. UNK would take a 7-0 lead in the 4
th inning with a bases clearing double. The Lopers would break the game wide open with a six run 5
th inning to make the score 13-0 and take game two.
