EDMOND, Okla. - Newman faced Missouri Western Friday morning in Edmond, Oklahoma in the first round of the MIAA Tournament.  The Jets were eliminated from title contention in the quarterfinals as MWSU took the match 4-0.

Newman's defeat came at the hands of a deep Griffon roster.  The Jets lost the doubles point as well as courts two, five and six.

Coach Augspurger's club's appearance came after a 14 win season.  Newman's talent is nearly all expected to return as just one senior will graduate.  That senior is Mirella D'Angelo Cavalcanti who helped the Jets clinch the six seed on Senior Day in a win over Emporia State.
