MONKEY ISLAND, Okla. –  Men's golf was in Monkey Island, Oklahoma for the MSSU Fall Invite. This was the 2nd tournament of the fall season for the Jets as they looked for better results after last week's NSU Golf Classic.
 
Senior Justin Looper had the best finish for Newman after finishing 3rd just last week. Looper shot 239 in the 3 rounds which was +23 on the classic. He was able to recover from a round 2 score of 85 by shooting 9 strokes lower in round 3. Looper tied for 72nd.
 
Noah Arhens finished tied for 88th after finishing the classic with a score of +32. He finished each round shooting lower than the prior rounds.
 
"Shangri-La is a fun course and can be challenging. We have not played the way we have wanted to these first two tournaments, but we have been able to see what needs improvement and focus on those things in practice. We are much better than we have showed thus far as we played well qualifying and have showed some great things in practice, we will keep working hard so we can hopefully perform better in competition." Head Coach Taryn Torgerson said of her team's performance from the classic.
 
The Jets have struggled in the first 2 tournaments and haven't received the outcomes they have liked, but they have a chance to turn that around in the Washburn Invitational next Monday and Tuesday at the Topeka Country Club in Topeka, Kansas.
