Carissa Beck broke the school record for consecutive free throws made (24) in a highly offensive matchup vs Pitt State which the Gorillas came out on top 101-78.
Spagnola scored the first 9 points of the game for Newman off back to back to back 3's to give Newman its largest lead of the game at 9-4. The 6th year would finish the game with a career high 19 points, 15 coming from three pointers.
The lead would last for a few minutes before Pitt State's Harper Schreiner and Erin Davis started to heat up and help the Gorillas push themselves to a 10-0 run to take back the lead.
PSU would not give up the lead the rest of the game despite the Jets best efforts.
Carissa Beck broke the school record for consecutive free throws made with her 23rd and 24th free throw at the 8:49 mark in the 2nd quarter. Beck would end the game with 7 points.
Britney Ho led all scorers in the first half and would finish as the leading scorer on the floor by the end of the game. The senior finished with a career high 34 points and a career high in field goals with 15.
Newman would battle with Pitt State and get within 13 late into the 3rd quarter before the Gorillas got hot late to expand their lead and ultimately win the game 101-78. 5 Pitt State players would end the game in the double digit scoring column.
78 points scored was the most points for the Jets since their 74 points in an overtime victory at Lincoln on December 1st and the most that the 17-4 Gorillas would give up since January 1st vs Southern.
The Jets shot 45.5% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc and a perfect 7-7 from the charity stripe.
Newman moves to 0-8 all time vs Pitt State.Â
The Jets are back in action this Thursday to start a 3 game home stand beginning with Fort Hays State on February 2nd before finishing the week on Hall of Fame Night next Saturday vs Nebraska Kearney.
