Durant, Oklahoma- Newman Tennis took on Texas-Tyler on Saturday, UT Tyler are currently ranked #14 in DII Men's Tennis. Newman was scheduled to face Southeastern Oklahoma State on Sunday, but was canceled due to rain.
Men's Tennis:
Mehdi Akoudad and
Pedja Kolaric picked up a doubles win in dominant fashion over UT Tyler with a score of 6-1. However, they were the only Newman doubles pair to get a win. UT Tyler took the doubles point to start the day.
In singles play,
Gustavo Gil brought in a win, battling to the 3rd set taking it 6-2.
Jarrod Nowak also recorded a win in singles. Winning 6-1 and 7-5. Those two wins were the only ones Newman was able to take.
Ali Mounir battled in his singles, but could not rally to get the win. Mounir lost in 3 sets.
With only 2 singles wins on the day, the Jets lost 5-2.
Women's Tennis:
The Jets were unable to pull in a doubles win.
In singles play,
Dana Issabayeva took her opponent to a tiebreak, but could not pull out the win and lost 10-8.
Ani Zeikidze fell short in her first set, but battled back in her second set. Zeidke was unable to complete the comeback, and lost her second set 6-4.
Newman lost the day 7-0.
