WICHITA- Newman Women's Tennis hosted Fort Hays State for another MIAA matchup.
The Jets were able to play their match outdoors as the weather finally cooperated.
The Jets took all 3 doubles matches in dominant fashion. In the #1 spot, Ani Zeikidze and Divya Murali took their win 6-2. In the #2 spot, Dana Issabayeva and Isabela Campos Bifano didn't drop a game, winning 6-0. Nicole Bono and Antonia Ramos took their win only dropping 1 game, 6-1. The Jets took the doubles point to start out on top, 1-0.Â
The Jets carried the doubles win momentum into the singles matches. No.62 Issabayeva started out strong with a 6-4 win in her first set. The second set was a tight match, but lost 6-4. In the tie break, Issabayeva came out on top with a 10-5 win.
Zeikidze played in the #2 spot. The first set was a tight match but wasn't able to come out on top, dropping it 4-6. Zeikidze battled to take the second set 6-2, forcing a tie break. Zeikidze lost the tiebreaker, 5-10, full of close calls that didn't fall her way.
Bifano won the first set easily, with a 6-0 win. Bifano was down early in the second match, 4-1. However, she rallied back to take the set 6-4.Â
Murali took her first set 6-3. Murali's second match was tight but she was able to stick it out for the 7-5 win.
Bono carried her strong play from her doubles to her singles, taking her wins 6-1 in both sets.Â
Amber Hands found herself down in both of her sets, but climbed her way on top to take both sets 6-3.Â
The Jets travel to Topeka, Kansas to take on the Ichabods on March 31st. Washburn is currently ranked No. 19 as a team and has the No. 1 and No.19 singles players in their lineup.Â
