PRATT, KS – The men's and women's tennis teams opened their fall slate at the Pratt/McPhearson Invitational on Friday, taking on Pratt Community College and McPhearson College.
The men won four singles matches against Pratt, with the top three of
Ali Mounir, Kurt Bruckner, and
Isfan Makhmudov all winning their matchups.
Andrea Torrini also won his matchup, playing in the six slot.
The men would then go on to tie Pratt in doubles competition, going 2-2.
Overall, the men were narrowly defeated by Pratt. losing 6-7.
The men would also pick up six wins against McPhearson, with Makhmudov winning at the two. McPherson won overall, edging the Jets 8-7 after strong performances in doubles competition.
The women's team was impressive on the day, only losing 2 matchups through the entire day.
The ladies swept Pratt, going 6-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles.
Although losing the top two matches to McPhearson in singles, the women won the next seven matches, and would also sweep in doubles, going 3-0.
The Jets would go on to win 10-2 overall against McPherson.
The Men's team will be in action again next week, competing in two events. The team will split up with half going to the ITA Central Regional in Topeka from Friday through Sunday and the other half competing at the Tiger/Jinx Invitational in Winfield, Kansas on Friday and Saturday.
The Women will also compete in Winfield on Friday, with a home matchup against Sterling next Tuesday before heading to their ITA Central Regional in Edmond, Oklahoma.
