Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Hornets outshoot Jets early

Seniors Beck and Josey were celebrated at the conclusion of game

WICHITA - Women's Basketball hosted their final Saturday match-up of the season against Emporia State, marking the annual senior day game in February.

Carissa Beck and Amiya Josey, both of whom were honored after the game, both started in one of their final games in Fugate Gymnasium. Both Josey and Beck have started in every game this season, with both playing a majority of Saturday's game.

The Hornets, who the Jets had beaten the last time they had played in January, started off the game on an explosive 12-0 scoring run before the Jets could even muster some offense.

Newman got on the board with three pointers in the first quarter, with senior Carissa Beck hitting the first of two threes in the quarter. Delainey Wylie, who had two threes in the final minutes of a heartbreaking loss to Nebraska Kearney, continued to showcase her arm from beyond the arc.

Wylie continued her hot streak in the second quarter, where she scored eight of Newman's eleven points.

Amiya Josey, while not reaching a third straight career night, contributed to several big shots for Newman in the third quarter. And while the Hornets lead was not in doubt for much of the afternoon, the Jets played extremely hard and tried to make the most out of their penultimate home game.

The Hornets went on to win, 76-46.

Beck was Newman's joint leading scorer in the game, scoring thirteen. Wylie continued her impressive debut season with thirteen as well, adding two more blocks to her block tally. Wylie went almost perfect from the field today, missing just one shot and making all four of her free throw attempts.

Amiya Josey ended her night with eight points and snatching eight rebounds.

Beck and Josey were celebrated after the game for senior day, with each just one more home game for the Navy and Red. Both were accompanied by family at center court.

The Jets will head on the road next week taking on Northeastern State and Rogers State, and will host their final home game against Missouri Western in two weeks.
