Jets unable to stop strong Crimson Storm offense

Praught finishes with four hits in game two

Bethany, Okla.. - The Jets traveled to Bethany for a double header against Southern Nazarene on Tuesday afternoon, with the Jets having won four out of their last five games.

The last time Newman played was in a double header split against Friends. Newman scored a total sixteen runs in that series and had two players hitting home runs.

Game 1:

The first game started with Newman's Giana Navarro getting a single hit to second base to get the Jets started in the first inning. The Crimson Storm weren't able to get a run in the bottom of the first which led to a scoreless first inning.

Malie Noda was able to single up the middle in the top of the second inning, but that wasn't enough for the Jets to score. The Crimson Storm got the lead after they scored five runs in the bottom of the second.

Tori Waggoner got another hit for the Jets with a bunt early in the third inning, but Newman wasn't able to keep the momentum going. Southern Nazarene scored two more runs in the third inning to make it a 7-0 game.

While making quick work of the Crimson Storm in the fourth, the next three Jet batters struck out.

The game ended in the fifth inning after the Crimson Storm were able to get their eighth run in, putting the run rule into effect.

Kinyon DeCorte and Madison Dewitt split time pitching in the game, combining for four strikeouts. Dewitt would only allow three hits and one run through 2.2 innings as a reliever.

Game 2:

Navarro got the Jets' offense started in the second game with a single to center field. Kaitlyn Praught followed Navaro's lead with a single to right center and assisted Navarro with an RBI to score the first run for the Jets.

Paola Zamacona got a strikeout to start the bottom of the first inning. After that, Southern Nazarene would tie the game up with a home run to left field. Newman's defense was able to stop the Crimson Storm to go to the top of the second inning with a tied game.

The Crimson Storm would go on to score two runs off of a single to left side in the bottom of the second. Zamacona was able to stop the Crimson Storm in the inning, leaving two runners on base.

The Jets were able to get three runners on base in the top of the third after AJ Borja bunted a single, Hayley Bonython walked and Praught bunted again to make it 2-2 in the game. Ramos and Noda tried, but weren't able to score any of the runners.

Newman was able to get the first three batters out for a quick bottom of the third.

Kayla Lopez got a single with a bunt to start the top of the fourth. Lauren McNaught walked to put two runners on base for the Jets. Navarro was able to advance both of the runners one base with a ground out to first base, but that wouldn't be enough to score a run in the inning.

The Jets got the first three batters out again for another fast inning, and another great defensive effort.

Kaitlyn Praught got her third hit out of three with a single up the middle, advancing Bonython to second after she walked. Malie Noda singled up the middle assisting Praught to advance to second and Bonython to score the second run for the Jets.

Zamacona was able to stop the Crimson Storm's offense once again, finishing the bottom of the fifth inning striking out the batter.

The seventh and last inning was a roller coaster with the Jets tying the game up with a single from Lauren Kwak that scored Kaitlyn Praught who got on base after hitting her fourth of four hits in the game.

The game would end 3-6 after a home run from the Crimson Storms scored three more runs.
