Hit the Road, Jets!
With just four games remaining in the 2023/24 season, the Jets head out on the road to take on Northeastern State and Rogers State, in rematches of games that were decided by just a few possessions in January.
Last Time Out
With
Carissa Beck and
Amiya Josey celebrating senior day, the Jets took on Emporia State in the final Saturday home game of the season.
The Hornets took an early 12-0 lead, which led to them maintaining the lead for the entire game.
Newman got on the board with three pointers in the first quarter, with
Carissa Beck hitting the first of two threes in the quarter.Â
Delainey Wylie, who had two threes in the final minutes of a heartbreaking loss to Nebraska Kearney, continued to showcase her arm from beyond the arc.Â
Beck was Newman's joint leading scorer in the game, scoring thirteen. Wylie continued her impressive debut season with thirteen as well, adding two more blocks to her block tally. Wylie went almost perfect from the field, missing just one shot and making all four of her free throw attempts.Â
After the game, Beck and Josey were honored for senior day.

The Top Blocker
Delainey Wylie is now up to 50 blocks in her first season, while still leading the way in the blocking standings. She is now two blocks clear of her nearest competitor.
Behind Enemy Lines
Despite coming off two straight losses, the Northeastern State RiverHawks have won their most games in a season since the 2014/15 season where they won 12 games. NSU, who has not been to the MIAA tournament since the 17/18 season, is on the cusp of clinching a spot in the tournament if they win this weekend.
With eight conference wins this, the RiverHawks have won as many conference games as the last two seasons combined.
Occupying the eighth seed if the season ended today, it looks like Northeastern State will play for a chance in the NCAA tournament in just a few weeks.
Below the RiverHawks in the standings is Rogers State. The Hillcats, who are two games behind tenth place Washburn, can make some ground this weekend in the race for the final spot.
The Hillcats have lost four straight, which has seen them fall in the standings.
Rogers will play in a crucial Thursday night game against Central Oklahoma, as both teams are neck and neck in trying to secure the final spot in Kansas City.
The Series
The Jets are 3-7 all-time against Northeastern State, with the RiverHawks getting a narrow 68-62 victory in January. Newman has only won once in Tahlequah, with that victory coming in January of 2023.
Newman is 13-8 all-time against Rogers State. The Hillcats won the last meeting 64-52 in Wichita. The Jets are 5-5 all time on the road in Claremore.
