Down to the last two
Newman Women's Basketball hosts their final home game of the season against Missouri Western on Thursday and will then conclude the season on Saturday against Central Oklahoma in Edmond.

In The Presence of Royalty
Thursday marks the annual homecoming game at Newman, with homecoming celebrations coming after the game, where the king and queen will be named at center court.

Last Time Out
The Jets had two of their best defensive performances of the season last weekend, holding both Northeastern State and Rogers State to under 35% from the floor.

On Saturday, against the Hillcats, Newman allowed 33% from Rogers State and just several field goals in the second half.

Amaya Perez scored Newman's first four points of the game, taking the lead early on the road. For the first five minutes, Newman only allowed two points as both teams tried to find different ways to score. Both teams fell short of making their shots, which led to a long scoreless drought for both.

Carissa Beck's three point shooting kept Newman in the game, but a scoring drought at the end of the second quarter gave Rogers State an eight-point lead at halftime.

While the Jets played tough defense and allowed the fewest field goals in the third quarter, they also sent the Hillcats to the line for a game high eleven free throw attempts, where the home team made eight of the attempts.

More excellent defense from the Jets came in the final quarter but could not convert on opportunities to cut into the Rogers State lead. Despite the effort, the Hillcats defeated the Jets, 59-39.

Behind Enemy Lines
The Missouri Western Griffons have already won a share of the 2023-24 MIAA regular season title, and with a win in either of their two games this weekend the Griffons will have secured the title all for themselves.
With a 22-4 record and a 17-3 record in the MIAA, the Griffons are on the longest winning streak in the conference with twelve consecutive victories.

The Griffons were just beginning their winning streak when the Jets came to St. Joseph in January, and on their way through this winning streak they have defeated #16 Central Missouri and #15 Fort Hays State.

Hanging on to dear life and hoping for some help this weekend, Central Oklahoma can claim the tenth seed if Washburn loses their next two games and the Bronchos win out.

Central Oklahoma, who has claimed six of their seven wins in conference play, have won two out of their last three games, including Washburn.

Newman defeated the Bronchos on the final day of the regular season last year to clinch the final spot in the MIAA tournament.

The Series
The Jets have never beaten Missouri Western, with the Jets going 0-9 against the Griffons since 2009.

Last years win over the Bronchos remains Newman's sole win over UCO. Other than that victory, the Jets have lost the nine other meetings.

Fare Ye Well
The season for Women's Basketball officially ends on Saturday in Edmond.
