Men's Tennis split on opening day

Bruckner wins all four matches played

Kearney, Neb. -The Jets traveled to Nebraska to face Metro State and Augustana on Saturday. After an undefeated fall season, the Jets were looking to maintain their good form for their first conference matchup.

Metro State:

The mens battled but came short against the Roadrunners. Luca Penteado and Kurt Suarez Bruckner won their doubles match (6-4) but that wasn't enough to get the point for the Jets. In singles, Bruckner completed an outstanding comeback after losing the first set 1-6, with a final (1-6, 7-6, 1-0(10-8)) score.

Isfan Makhmudov lost the match in the super tie break but battled in the match forcing 2 tie breaks and winning one of them.

Nicolo Lippolis won his first spring season match as a Jet (7-6, 6-1). 

Augustana:

After competing in the first match, the Jets bounced back with a 4-3 win over the Vikings to win their first GAC/MIAA conference matchup. Luca Penteado and Bruckner won their second doubles match of the day (6-4) and Nicolo Lippolis and Andrea Bramati won their match (6-4) to secure the doubles point for the Jets.

Bruckner won his fourth match of the day in another third set super tie break(6-7, 6-1,1-0(10-8)). Ali Mounir battled and won his match in a third set tie break (7-6, 3-6, 1-0(11-9)). Makhmudov won confidently in straight sets (6-3, 6-3). Lippolis and Peteado lost their matches but forced a third set super tie break.

The Jets got a close win, 4-3, for their first conference win of the season. 

The Jets will travel to Lawrence, Kansas to face Ottawa this Friday, before returning home to take on Pratt Community College next Wednesday.
