Kearney, Neb. -The Jets traveled to Nebraska to face Metro State and Augustana on Saturday. After an undefeated fall season, the Jets were looking to maintain their good form.
Metro State:
The Jets started the season strong with a solid 5-2 win over the Roadrunners. Dana Issabayeva couldn't have started the season in a better way, after she beat No.8 ranked Emily Hafner in straight sets (6-4, 6-3).
Ani Zeikidze won her match in a third set super tie break (6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (11-9)).
Nicole Bono also won in a third set super tie break after a 6-0 start to the match (6-0, 3-6, 1-0(10-8)). Antonia Ramos won her second match of the day after beating her opponent (6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5)). Newman won the doubles point after securing two wins from Ramos and Issabayeva (6-4) and Martina Lolli and Marie Brunet (6-2).
Augustana:
Womens tennis faced No. 22 ranked Augustana in the second match of the day. The Vikings won 4-0, but the Jets still had some impressive showings.
Issabayeva forced a tie break in the first set against No. 14 ranked Florentia Hadjigeorgiou, and kept close with her ranked opponent but narrowly lost. She also won her doubles match with Ramos (6-3).
The Jets will travel to Lawrence, Kansas to face Ottawa on February 9th for their next matchup.
