Wtenn vs Southwestern

Women’s Tennis beat Southwestern to continue winning streak

The girls haven’t lost a set since February 18th

3/7/2024 5:19:00 PM

WICHITA - The Jets won their third match in six days after beating the Southwestern Jinx this past Wednesday. After beating Friends and Kansas Wesleyan without giving up any sets, the girls were looking to continue their good form and secure a third consecutive win.

Even though the weather wasn't as nice as it was forecasted, it turned out to be a very nice evening to play tennis.

The Jets started the evening winning two doubles matches with both partners Ani Zeikidze and Nicole Bono, and Marie Brunet and Luna Feillon winning their respective matches 6-2. That was enough for Newman to get the doubles point since Southwestern wasn't able to provide a third doubles team to compete.

All four singles matches started at the same time.

Dana Issabayeva didn't give her opponent any chance for an upset, beating her 6-0 in the first set and closing the match with a 6-3 second set.

Nicole Bono over played her opponent from beginning to end. She won the match with a 6-1, 6-1 final score.

Marie Brunet had no mercy and didn't allow her opponent to get a single game throughout the whole match. She won 6-0, 6-0. Win that win, the Jets clinched the win, but they wanted more.

With the Jinx only being able to play with four players, the fourth match was the last one that counted towards the score. Luna Feillon was selected to play that match. The freshman showed  her skills, once again, winning her match in straight sets 6-0, 6-1. Adding that point with the previous four, and the two from forfeited matches, the Jets added another 7-0 win to their record and moved to an impressive 10-3 overall record in the season.

Martina Lolli played Linda Nocito, and Antonia Ramos played Sofiko Zeikidze in two inter squad matches to eight games.

Upcoming:

The Jets will travel to Durant, Oklahoma this Saturday to play Southeastern Oklahoma State in their first out of five away matches.
