Women's Tennis falls just short in battle with Bronchos

4/20/2024 9:09:00 PM

Edmond, Okla. -Newman traveled to Oklahoma to play a conference matchup against the Central Oklahoma Bronchos. The match was as close as it can get. A battle between two teams looking for a post season spot.

The Jets were coming back after a thrilling win against Emporia State on April 14th. Ani Zeikidze clinched the win for the Jets with an outstanding third set comeback. Zeikidze lost the first set and was able to win the second set and the third one in a battled tie break despite her physical discomfort.

The Bronchos started the match winning the doubles point after claiming all three of the doubles matches. Partners Marie Brunet and Nicole Bono were the closest Jets to get a doubles win, after they forced their opponents to play a tie breaker to decide the winner of their match.

Dana Issabayeva tied things up after winning her match 7-5, 6-1. That's Issabayeva's sixth straight win and her thirteenth win in the season. Dana is currently ranked as the number forty one singles player in the country.

Ani Zeikidze continued her great form winning her match in straight sets 6-4, 6-0 to give the Jets the 2-1 lead. That's Zeikidze's fourth win in her last five matches.

Antonia Ramos completed a perfect match winning both sets 6-0, 6-0. Something that is very hard to do at the collegiate level. Ramos claimed the third point in the match for the Jets to put the win within one match win.

The Bronchos were able to win the remaining singles matches to clinch a close 3-4 win, making the doubles point the decider point in the match.
