4/6/2024 9:36:00 PM

WICHITA -Newman competed in one of their toughest weekends so far in terms of competition. The Jets faced No. 5 ranked Washburn on Thursday afternoon and No. 40 ranked Northwest Missouri State on Saturday morning.

The Jets were coming off of a very close matchup against Nebraska Kearney. The match was decided at the number one seed in a third set that went to seven games.

Match 1:

The Ichabods started the match winning the doubles point. Partners Luca Penteado and Andrea Bramati played a really good match and were very close throughout the whole match, finishing with a final 4-6. The number one doubles didn't get to finish because the Ichabods clinched the doubles point before that, but it was 5-6 at the time with Ali Mounir and Nicolo Lippolis competing against the number thirty nine ranked doubles team.

Ali Mounir played an amazing first set, losing in the tiebreaker against the number thirty five player in the country. After that great effort in the first set, Mounir wasn't able to repeat it in the second set.

Kurt Bruckner played the seventy five ranked player in the country and something similar happened to him. Kurt lost 5-7 the first set pushing his opponent to the limit and forcing him to play great tennis. After that great effort, the second set wasn't as close as the first one.

Luca Penteado played a great first set and battled in a tiebreaker that was decided by small details. Penteado kept fighting after that but wasn't able to get that set back.

Nicolo Lippolis was very close to winning both sets. He played very good tennis and the match was decided in small details. The match ended 4-6, 6-7.

Andrea Bramati also had a very close match that could've gone either way. Bramati forced his opponent to win seven games to win the first set and was able to take the lead in some points of the set. After losing the first one, it was tougher for Bramati to compete as well as he did in the first set.
