Game Recap: Softball |

Jets take Jennies down to the wire in game 2; Fourth inning decides game 1

Warrensburg, Mo. -Softball continued their away trip in Missouri with a second doubleheader in as many days, this time facing the Central Missouri Jennies. The first and the fourth inning decided an unchallenged first game. The second game was decided in a thrilling seventh inning that could have gone either way.

Newman came back to action after a split with Lincoln on Friday afternoon. A great defensive effort from Kinyon DeCorte helped the Jets claim a shutout win in the first game. The Blue Tigers brought their offensive A game in the second game to secure a win in the second game and get a split.

Game 1:

The Jennies started the game scoring three runs off of a home run to left center field. The Jets were unable to respond to that in the following inning with a heavy wind that was hard to read for the Jet batters.

After two scoreless innings, Central Missouri scored five runs off of two singles and two doubles to make the difference between both teams go up to eight.

Despite a great effort from the batters, Newman wasn't able to score any runs in the top of the fifth to finish a game that was greatly influenced by the wind.

Game 2:
Newman was able to slow down the Jennies offense in the second game after another great performance from Senior Jackie Gold. She accumulated seven strikeouts, again, to make that a total of sixty in the season.

The Jennies were able to get one run in the bottom of the first inning after a single to right field, but were unable to get any more hits until late in the game.

From the second to the fifth inning, the game was a hitting and pitching battle between both teams. Jackie Gold kept the Jets in the game and only within one run.

Rylee Gresham took advantage of the opportunity and scored Hayley Bonython with a single up to the middle of the field. The Jets tied the game in the top of the sixth inning and were back in the game. A great defensive display from the Jets in the bottom of the sixth denied the Jennies from scoring in the bottom of the seventh.

With everything to play for in the seventh inning, the Jets were unable to score despite being able to leave one runner on base.

The Jennies were able to get the winning run in the bottom of the seventh after a single to right field.

Up next:
The Jets will host the last two doubleheaders of the season on April 12th and 13th with Senior Day being celebrated on the 13th.
