Jets doubles pair reaches semifinals, Issabayeva reaches round of 16 in singles

Women’s Tennis competes at the Central Regional ITA Individual Championships

EDMOND, Okla.- Four individuals from Women's Tennis competed in the Central Regional ITA Individual Championships this weekend. All four Jets won in the first round of singles. The Jets doubles pairs both made the quarterfinals, one pair made their way into the semifinals. 

Dana Issabayeva Results:
In the first round of singles, Issabayeva was able to win both of her sets. In the first set, taken to a tie breaker, she won 7-6. In the second set, she won with ease at 6-2. In the round of 32, Issabayeva took care of business in two sets. The first set she won after a battle at 7-6, winning the tie break 7-5. In the second set she dominated with a 6-2 set to win the match. With that win, Issabayeva reached the round of 16. In the round of 16, she wasn't able to come out on top. She fell short, 6-1 and 6-3 to end her singles tournament run. 

Ana Zeikidze Results:
In the first round of singles, Zeikidze won her first set at 6-3. The second set went to her opponent, but Zeikidze was able to bounce back to win the tiebreaker, 14-12 to advance into the next round. In the second round, Zeikidze lost in two sets, 6-2 and 6-1 to end her singles run in the tournament. 

Nicole Bono Results:
In the first round of singles, Bono was able to take her win in two sets. She won the first set 6-2 and won her second set, 6-3. In the round of 32, she dropped the first set 6-2. In the second set she made a great effort to make a comeback, but fell short at 6-4. 

Mariana Jimenez Results:
In the singles, Jimenez won her first match with ease at 6-2 and 6-4 to head to the next round. In the second round, she fell short, 6-3 and 6-0. 

Doubles Results:
Issabayeva and Bono competed in doubles together. The pair was able to  win two matches to make the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, they were unable to steal the win. They dropped the match, 8-3. 

Zeikidze and Jimenez also competed in the doubles tournament as a pair. They were able to win three matches at 8-6, 8-6, and 8-1 to clinch their ticket to the semifinals. In the semifinals, they lost the match 8-2 to end their doubles run. 


Next Up: Women's Tennis will travel to Pratt CC for the Collegiate Doubles Invite on October 4th.
